TOP REGGAE & GOSPEL ARTISTS FOR TORONTO INTERNATIONAL JAMAICA DAY CELEBRATION
Toronto, CANADA: The Toronto International Jamaica Day Celebration is Toronto’s most colorful, vibrant and lavish celebration of the island’s hypnotic culture. Thousands of Jamaicans overseas and those who embrace the culture who find themselves within striking distance of Toronto look forward to this event with much anticipation each year. This legendary one day festival was previously known as Jamaica Day. It turns twenty one this year and to celebrate that milestone, the event promises to be more explosive and more innovative than ever.
This year’s date is Saturday July 23 and the jamboree will take place for the first time at the thrilling, fun-filled and family oriented Wild Water Kingdom at the Outdoor Festival Ground. A compelling package of vintage and contemporary reggae hit makers will provide the core of the day’s musical entertainment. Those confirmed to appear are hit machines Serani, veteran Festival Song Winner Eric Donaldson, Ernie Smith and Baby Cham.
This year's festival will also include a highly anticipated Gospel Celebration that will feature some of the top names in the industry, including international stars - Peninsilyn (2001 Tastee/2003 & 2004 JCDC National Song Festival winner; Lubert Levy (2004 JCDC Gospel Festival Winner); New York award winners, Abigail Hamilton and Janet Lewis; Toronto's anointed Bishop John Taylor, Patrick Blair, Natalie Palmer and Insp. Lenny. The Gospel Celebration will be hosted by Bro Gee (CIUT 89.5FM) and Godfrey Chisholm (JOY 1250 AM).
The concert segment of the celebration will unfold against a backdrop of other signature chunks of Jamaican culture: mouthwatering culinary treats that are sure to send one’s taste buds back to ‘yard’, colorful fashion to energize the soul, and a potpourri of mementos and merchandise that will inspire a welcomed trip down memory lane. The Toronto International Jamaica Day Celebration promises to capture and showcase the very best that the island has to offer.
“This year we are looking forward to welcoming thousands of fans to our new venue. We are sparing no efforts to make our twenty-first anniversary a truly spectacular celebration”, festival founder and Toronto resident Hewitt Loague affirmed.
This year too, the event is being produced by the Sunrise Talent Development Program who describes its mission as enabling the Jamaican Day organization to develop Canadian artists year round through showcases and educational workshops. Since its inception, Jamaica Day has provided a platform for nearly 150 Canadian artists to be showcased to thousands of fans.
